Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient East Asian therapy used to boost the body’s own ability to heal itself. Working with the meridian and nervous systems, acupuncture produces a therapeutic response to relieve pain, calm stress, and normalize body functions. It involves skillfully inserting sterile, solid, and very thin metal needles into the superficial muscle layer at specific anatomical areas called acupoints making acupuncture a painless and relaxing procedure.

Before acupuncture treatment begins, your condition is evaluated to devise an effective acupoint protocol. In a typical acupuncture treatment, 15 to 20 acupuncture needles are strategically placed into acupoints and retained for 25 minutes. Most conditions require a series of treatments to achieve significant improvement, but in many instances, there is some noticeable difference after the first treatment.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Acupuncture Evidence Project, acupuncture may help improve the following conditions:

  • Musculoskeletal pain
  • Headache/migraine
  • High blood pressure (with medication)
  • Anxiety, depression, stress
  • Insomnia
  • Constipation
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Allergic Rhinitis
  • Weight loss (as part of a weight loss regimen)
  • Menstrual pain and menopausal symptoms
